Beads are part of the cultural heritage there are in Ghana. From the Northern to the Southern parts of Ghana. All the way to the East and to the West; Beads have their peculiar significance in every part of Ghana. However, in all these areas, beads form a significant part of Ghanaian’s jewels collection.
We are somewhat out of the era where so much significance was given to the quantity of beads one wears to determine one’s social status or wealth; but we can not deny the cultural attachment one feels when a person wears them.
Traditionally, beads; be it necklace or bracelet it ones worn on the waist by women was considered precious jewellery in the olden day and even today.
The making of beads into fashionable items; has taken a different turn in Ghana.
Not only do people use beads for necklace or bracelets anymore; people decorate sandals with beads and even make bags with beads!
Can you imagine?
For some people working with beads it is fun. For others it is an opportunity to make money. And for most people; it is the joy they find, knowing they are expanding the culture of Ghana.
As every part of a culture does; the wearing of beads keeps people together. It gives people a cherished identity wherever they find themselves; because they feels like royals.
With beads, one need not fear fading or wearing off their jewels. It can be worn anywhere and anytime.
On a regular, jewels made of beads do cost from 1$ to 25$ depending on the article a person wants.
